Binge Detection
Binge detection flags sessions where you watched several videos in a row without returning to a declared intent -- a signal that the recommendation system has taken over from conscious choice.
Binge detection is a feature in Gazenest that identifies YouTube sessions where the recommendation engine, rather than your own intent, drove the sequence of videos watched.
The assumption behind binge detection is that a single continuation is normal -- you finish one video and watch another on the same topic. But a long uninterrupted chain of recommendations, watched without any intervening intent check, is a pattern consistent with passive autopilot rather than active choice.
When a binge session is detected, Gazenest logs it in your weekly summary and flags it in the dashboard. You can review which sessions were flagged, what you watched during them, and how long they lasted. The information is presented without commentary -- Gazenest does not tell you bingeing is bad, only that it happened and here is the data.
Binge sessions are separated analytically from intentional long sessions. If you open YouTube in Free scroll mode and watch two hours of content, that is a declared intent and is not flagged as a binge. Binge detection activates specifically when sessions that started with a stated intent drift into extended unintentional continuation, or when multiple videos are watched back-to-back without any intent having been declared.
Gazenest's habit alert system can be configured to notify you when a binge is in progress -- a real-time signal rather than a retrospective one -- if you prefer active interruption over passive reporting.
