Watch Budget

A watch budget in Gazenest is a voluntary, user-defined time limit for YouTube consumption. You set a target -- for example, 30 minutes per day or 3 hours per week -- and Gazenest tracks your actual honest watch time against it in real time.

Watch budgets are not hard blocks. Gazenest does not lock you out of YouTube when you reach your limit. The product is built on the principle that awareness and data change behaviour more sustainably than forced deprivation. If you want a hard block, Freedom or Cold Turkey are the right tools for that job.

What watch budgets do: they give you a visible, honest number to track against. The extension can display your remaining budget for the day or week in the YouTube interface if you enable that option. The dashboard shows your budget utilisation trend over time -- whether you are systematically over-budget, under-budget, or erratic.

Budget alerts are a related feature: you can configure a notification to appear when you have used a proportion of your daily or weekly budget, or when you have exceeded it. The alert is a moment of choice, not a gate.

Watch budgets work most effectively when set from actual baseline data rather than optimistic targets. Gazenest's dashboard shows your historical average watch time per day and per week, which is the right starting point for a realistic budget. Setting a budget modestly below your current average is more sustainable than setting one at half your current consumption.
