Diversity Score

The Diversity Score measures how varied your YouTube consumption is across topics, channels, and content types over time. Too low means filter bubble. Too high means scattered. There is a healthy band and Gazenest shows you yours.

The Diversity Score is the third of three weekly behavioural scores computed by Gazenest. Unlike the Clarity Score (session-level focus) and Self-Control Score (intent alignment), the Diversity Score is computed across your entire week of viewing.

A Diversity Score below the healthy band means your YouTube consumption has collapsed into a narrow set of channels and topics -- typically a sign of algorithmic narrowing. You are watching the same creators, the same formats, the same subject matter repeatedly. This is the filter bubble effect described by Eli Pariser (2011): recommendation systems optimise for engagement by showing you more of what you already watched, progressively narrowing your information diet.

A Diversity Score above the healthy band means you are watching a very wide range of content with no coherent pattern -- high novelty, low depth. This is often associated with passive channel surfing rather than intentional consumption.

The healthy band varies by user. Gazenest computes your personal range over time and marks your current week's score relative to your own baseline, not against an arbitrary universal target.

The Diversity Score is available on all paid plans.
